A 1st Grader At Last!

Connor is offically a 1st grader now! His class celebrated a successful year with an end of the year SPLASH! They impressed parents with some choral readings and singing and then finally received a packet full of important papers and a handshake from Mrs. Schlatter. Connor had an incredible kindergarten year (with quite possibly the most incredible teacher). He learned so much academically and grew up a lot socially and emotionally too. Some highlights from the school year...

  • lost two teeth (2 more are very close)

  • became a great reader (and he's figuring out there are all sorts of things he can read everywhere...including the menu at restaurants)

  • found friends other than his big brother to play with at recess...this took him about 2 months to do

  • became quite the writer (even had his rules for playing in the snow/ice read on the announcements)

  • had perfect attendance

  • frequently shared bits of wisdom he learned from school at the supper table

  • declared his mom the best cook in the world

  • shared his love for farming and UNI Panthers with his friends

  • developed a new found love for baseball as he mastered catching and hitting the ball from a pitcher...too bad he has another year of t-ball

  • made some great friends as you can see below (either he has all tall friends or he's a little on the short side...we'll go with tall friends)

Tournament!

Instead of hanging out at the pool on our beautiful Saturday we were in Waverly for most of the day. As much as I would have loved relaxing near the water (on our first nice day after a stretch of rain), I really enjoyed watching Mason in his first IBL tournament. The team played great and they had a lot of fun...even Owen and Connor entertained themselves for 6+ hours between the park, batting cages, and the back of Sturch's van! The icing on the cake was placing first in the 3rd/4th grade division! GO CEDARLOO NORTH STARS!

Mohawks!

I finally caved and let the boys get mohawks. They (being Mason and Connor) have been asking for a long time, especially since the little neighbor guy got one. Of course, Owen wanted the cool do because his brothers had one! I have to admit they are all pretty darn cute. Mason and Connor have pretty thick straight hair and it's hard to "spike", but Owen's curls stand up nicely. The whole "gelling and shaping" process makes me thankful I have boys and don't have to fix hair on a daily basis!
